Day 1
Fly to Santiago, reception and transfer to hotel.
Day 2
Full day in Santiago
Day 3
Morning flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt in the Chilean Lake District. Private charter flight from Pto Montt to Marin Balmaceda fishing village and airstrip on the Chilean coast. 30 minute boat trip along coast, visiting the seal colonies en route, arrival at Bahia Mala lodge. Reception, tour of the lodge and accommodation in private cabins on the beach.
Day 4
Morning horseback ride along the Mala River. Lunch at the lodge. Afternoon sea kayaking lesson in protected cove. Dinner and bonfire on beach.
Day 5
Early morning trip with the local caretaker family to go fishing and shellfish collecting in the ocean. Everyone will have a chance to help the fishermen prepare nets, bait, bring in fish and dig for clams on uninhabited islands. Collect food for dinner and possible visit to the fishing village of Santa Domingo to sell excess fish, learn how people live along the coast here. Return to lodge in the evening. Evening sea kayak or boat excursion to Bahia de los Patos (Duck Bay, frequent area for dolphin encounters). Dinner at the lodge eating with the local family the food you collected together in the morning.
Day 6
Depart Bahia Mala after breakfast. 30 minute boat ride up coast to the mouth of the Palena River. 30 minute motor boat ride up the Palena River where a vehicle will be waiting to collect your family. Drive to village of La Junta where you can see a typical pioneer settlement of the Chilean outback. Arrival at Lago Yunge Lodge. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7
Morning horseback trip around Lake Yunge to far shore, visit small Gaucho family home on shores of lake to learn about their lifestyle. Return to lodge by horseback or boat for lunch. Afternoon free to hike around the property, canoeing or fishing on the lake, sea kayaks on the lake, play with the dogs, etc.. Enjoy the serenity of the location.
Day 8
Morning float trip down the Palena River in inflatable raft or ducky. Lunch on the shores of the river. Visit local lumber mill and furniture makers. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon to go fishing or just relax
Day 9
Depart in Charter Flight from Yunge Lodge back to Pto Montt with connection onwards to Santiago, or continue trip into Bariloche, Argentina via charter flight.
***Please note for those who do not like horses, mountain bikes can be substituted.
