Day 1
Arrival in Lima, Peru
Reception in Lima Airport and transfer to hotel in Miraflores
Day 2
Discovering the Amazon Jungle
Transfer back to Lima airport for the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Reception at Airport by your own family friendly naturalist guide who will accompany you on a 45 minute motorized dugout canoe ride down the Madre de Dios River. Arrival at Reserva Amazonica Jungle Lodge. Greeting at Interpretation Center and Overview of Lodge Facilities. Each child will receive their very own Explorer Kit which includes lots of goodies. Enjoy your afternoon jungle excursion which might include walking through the jungle treetops (Canopy Walk)…a 5 minute boat trip or 15 minute walk to the Canopy Walk. Dinner Buffet in the Lodge.
Optional Nocturnal Excursion: Listening and searching for toads and discovering the sounds of the jungle!! Overnight at Lodge in private Cabanas
Day 3
Exploring the Plant and Animal World
Meet in Interpretation Center at daybreak. Morning Excursion: Visit to Monkey Island (Rollin Island) with your chance to see up close and personal all 6 species of monkeys that live on the island. Afternoon Excursion: Enjoy the incredible hands on botanical garden at ACEER (Amazonian Center for Environmental Education and Research) see, taste, smell & feel the jungle! OR, try an alternate afternoon excursion: a visit to Lake Sandoval: Canoe Trip around the lake searching for river otters and other creatures that inhabit the lake, or maybe try a swim with the pirahanas (they really don’t always bite!). Dinner at the Lodge.
Day 4
Our Friends the Natives!!
Morning Excursion: Discovering the flavors of native produce. Visiting a farm and learning of sustainable life in the jungle. Afternoon Excursion: Return to Monkey Island for more monkeys or have the afternoon free! Optional kids stuff…the guide can take the young, (or young at heart) to a range where you can try your luck at blow guns, and bows & arrows—Amazon Style!
Day 5
The Butterfly World and Venture into the Andes
Motorized dugout ride up the river to return to Puerto Maldonado and the Airport, stopping by the Butterfly farm on the way to the airport. Mid-Morning flight to Cusco (30 minutes) and transfer to the Sacred Valley, at an altitude of about 9,000ft. Enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch. Overnight and dinner.
Day 6
Introduction to the Inca World
Breakfast Buffet at the Lodge. Morning excursion to visit Incan ruins restaurant. Afternoon we can explore the Sacred Valley floor by horseback or bike. Dinner and overnight at Lodge.
Day 7
Venture into the Cloud Forest
Transfer to Ollantaytambo and board train to Machu Picchu. Transfer to Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. Spend afternoon participating in the programmed eco-activities including a private visit for your family to the Spectacled Andean Bear Rescue Project, AND a special family sauna in a typical Andean “sweat house” at the Unu Spa.
Day 8
Exploring the Lost City of Machu Picchu
Private full morning guided visit of Machu Picchu. Visit to the tea plantation at Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel to learn about and help process tea. Afternoon “Inca Treasure Hunt” on the hotel grounds for the children so parents can enjoy the tranquility of the hotel, spa and massage services. OR return to Machu Picchu on own for more exploration
Day 9
To the center of the Inca World: Cusco
Train ride to Ollantaytambo station and then road transfer back to Cusco. Upon entering Cusco, we will explore the Inca Ruins and enjoy a picnic lunch. Afternoon kid friendly exploration of the city of Cusco. Exploring the hidden streets and alleys of the San Blas District, stopping at a local musical instrument workshop to learn about Andean Music.
Day 10
Exploration of Cusco
Half day excursion to the vast Inca water temple of Tipon where children can explore the water engineering marvels. Visit to the village of Oropesa, center of bread baking in the region where your children can create their own bread design, bake it and eat it! Return to Cusco for lunch Afternoon free.
Day 11
Return to Lima/Home
Transfer to Cusco airport for flight to Lima. Either extend the trip to include a night in Lima or south along the coast to explore the desert coastline, sand dunes and infamous Nazca Lines or connect with evening flight home. |
