CHRISTMAS IN BAVARIA
Sample Itinerary
Days 1 & 2 HOME/MUNICH
Leave home and arrive in Munich, where you will be transported to your hotel.
Day 3 MUNICH
Half-day orientation tour of Munich with private, English-speaking guide.

Munich City Tour: This tour will introduce you to some of Munich's most famous sites, including Nymphenburg Palace (former summer residence of the Bavarian kings), the Olympic grounds, Schwabing (the former artists' quarter), the Bavarian National Museum, the Bavarian Parliament, the Opera House, and many more. You will also visit the Marienplatz, where you will see the Neues Rathaus, home to a very famous glockenspiel whose almost life-size figures perform scenes from Munich's history.
Afternoon free to visit Munich's famous Navitiy Crib fairs. (December only)
Day 4 DACHAU
Half-day tour of Dachau
Dachau:
Established in March 1933, Dachau was the first concentration camp. Though there were only 4,800 prisoners that year, the number rose to 13,260 by 1937. You will drive through the village of Dachau and then continue on to the camp where you will visit the memorial site, the museum, and see a documentary film.
Afternoon free for your personal discovery of Munich's attractions.
Day 5 ROTHENBURG
Depart to Rothenburg with your car and driver. En route, you will stop in the 2000 year old town of Augsburg, originally founded by Caesar Augustus.
Continue on to one of Germany's most perfectly preserved medieval towns, Rothernberg. Upon arrival you will embark on a ˝ day tour of the city.
Rothenburg:
Rothenburg was founded in the 12th century and is famous for its art galleries, shops, cafes and pretty hotels. The town enjoys a fairy tale setting, being surrounded by towers, ramparts and walls. It is also home to Kathe Wohlfahrts, a world famous Christmas store.
Day 6 ROTHENBURG
Spend a day on your own in Rothenburg, enjoy the town hall and its vaults, Mark's Tower and Roder Arch, the Castle Gate and garden, St. Jacob's Church with its famous Altar of the Holy Blood, or the Toy and Doll Museum. For a special treat this evening, join the night watchman who will take you on a journey back in time while walking along the walls of the city. Adults and children alike will be thrilled by his stories.
Day 7 FUSSEN
Travel to Fussen, where you will tour two famous castles: Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein.
Fussen:
The 700 year old town of Fuessen is situated at the southern end of the Romantic Road and is in the heart of one of the finest holiday regions in the entire Alpine area. The town is located on the edge of the Alps, impressively framed by imposing mountain peaks and idyllic lakes.
Neuschwanstein:
Located on a high cliff at the foot of the Bavarian Alps is King Ludwig II's Neuschwanstein. A familiar site to many, it served as the inspiration for Disney's famous Sleeping Beauty's castle. It was originally designed as a magnificent home for the king alone. A pleasant hike will take you to the gate of the castle, where you will then tour the magnificent building.
Day 8 GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN
Travel through the Alps to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a town near Zugspitze (Germany's highest mountain at 9270 ft) that is one of the country's most popular year-round outdoor recreation sites. Enjoy the remainder of the day on your own.
Day 9 GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN
Spend a wonderful day enjoying all of the winter-time activities that Garmisch has to offer…sledding, snowboarding, skiing, ice skating…take your pick!
Day 10 MUNICH/HOME
Travel to Munich and fly home.
