Italy's warm climate, Renaissance treasures, and friendly people, appeal to all ages. Families will enjoy the romantic cities of Rome, Florence, and Venice, the tranquil beauty of Umbria, and the flavor of a Tuscan seaside resort. Experience history and architecture, great food, and shopping, and the warm colors of the Italian countryside. This itinerary has been designed to be family "friendly" using a private car and driver to minimize the hassles and maximize your enjoyment. RASCALS is proud to present the following itinerary.
Day 1
Arrive at the Rome Airport and transfer to your hotel where you will spend the next three nights. Balance of day at leisure.
Day 2
Enjoy a continental breakfast before being picked up by a private car and an English-speaking driver for a half-day tour of Rome. Afternoon is at leisure.
Day 3
This morning meet your private guide at the entrance to Vatican City. Enjoy a half- day tour of the Vatican including the recently restored, inspiring Sistine Chapel. Afternoon is at leisure. We suggest a tour of the Catacombs which can be arranged through the concierge of your hotel.
Day 4
This morning after breakfast you're off to the countryside. Your car and English-speaking driver will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to Torgiano, a small hamlet very close to Assisi. Here you will spend two nights at a very nice relais type hotel with a swimming pool.
Day 5-6
In the morning a private car and driver will pick you up and drive you to Florence. Spend two nights at the Hotel Pierre which is centrally located. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the exciting possibilities of this famous city.
Day 7
This morning enjoy a walking tour of Firenze with your private guide. See Michelangelo's David in the Galleria dell' Accademia, visit Uffizi Palace with its legendary art collection, and St. Stephen's Baptistry, with its famous brass doors. This afternoon is free for you to fill as you please, walking, shopping, or more art?... Try shopping on the Ponte Vecchio, a bridge dating from the 14th Century, lined with colorful quaint shops.
Day 8
Today is free, perhaps you'd like to explore Florence by foot...Visit, the Pitti Palace, a former home to the aristocratic Pitti family and a work of art in itself. Within its cavernous halls you will enjoy the finest Renaissance art, works by Raphael, Titiano, and other masterpieces. Wander through the ancient streets and discover countless museums and churches, each with its special treasures.
Day 9 - 11
After breakfast a car will arrive to whisk you off to the seaside village of Marina di Pietrasanta where you will spend three relaxing nights at a resort hotel facing the Mediterranean Sea. Here is your opportunity to enjoy an Italian resort as the natives do. Many Italian and other European families vacation here. Spend the next three days at the beach or by the pool. Or, if you're more adventurous, take a short taxi drive to Pisa or a short train ride to the beautiful Cinque Terre- a series of five picturesque towns clinging to cliffs overlooking the sea. Whatever your choices, this sojourn will be a highlight of your trip.
Day 12
Today, it's off to Venice- the legendary town of gondolas, canals, and romance. Transfer from your hotel to the Florence train station for a three hour ride to Venice. Arrive by mid-afternoon and transfer your hotel to spend two nights.
Day 13
Today, after breakfast, you're on your own to wander the canals and corridors of Venice, visit St. Mark's Cathedral, take a boat ride to the glass-blowing factory on Murano, whatever suits your imagination. In the evening take a gondola ride through the labryniths of the city, under the Bridge of Sighs, and end the day with a cappuchino and hot chocolate for the kids at the historical Florian Cafe. A perfect, relaxing ending to your two week Italian experience.
Day 14
After breakfast transfer from your hotel to the Venice airport. You will connect from Venice to either Rome or Milan for your flight to the USA.
Includes: Accommodations in Rome, Torgiano, Florence, Marina di Petrasanta and Venice, tax, service, and continental breakfast at all hotels, private car and driver/guide as described in itinerary, first class train tickets Florence to Venice, transfers as indicated.
