Scotland's beautiful landscape, renowned architecture, and vibrant history is what draws the most seasoned traveler. With myths of the Loch Ness Monster and Edinburgh's most notorious criminals brought to life, families will enjoy the underrated excitement of Scotland as well. World class golfing, highland Dancing, fabulous cuisine, or superb shopping; whatever your preference, Scotland abounds with the best of all worlds!
Day 1
Pick up at Edinburgh Airport and transfer to Carlton Highland Hotel or similar where you will spend the next three nights. Balance of day at leisure.
Day 2
Enjoy a full Scottish breakfast before being picked up from the hotel for a half day city bus tour of Edinburgh which will allow time to visit Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood House. Afternoon at leisure. Tonight you will attend a Scottish Evening which offers traditional Scottish Fayre- including of course the famous dish of haggis! Entertainment will be provided, including bagpipe music and Scottish Highland dancers.
Day 3
Full day at leisure to enjoy Edinburgh's many attractions and great shopping. No family trip to Edinburgh would be complete without doing one of the city's famous ghost walks, so tonight is the night. The tour starts at the top of the Royal Mile and will be led by Adam Lyal, a highwayman executed for his crimes in 1811! Wind down through the streets of Edinburgh's Old Town and be introduced to some rather unsavory characters along the way!
Day 4
Today you're off on your personal tour of Scotland! Your family will be picked up from the hotel by private mini-bus and driver who will accompany you during your tour. The journey north will start with a trip across the Forth Road Bridge into the Kingdom of Fife then a leisurely drive through the small fishing villages of the east coast. Stop off in St. Andrews for a tour of the "Home of Golf" and a visit to the town's Sealife Centre. Continue on to Scone and check into Murraysbail House Hotel which is situated amidst 300 acres of parkland and has its own golf course. You will spend the next two nights here.
Day 5
Enjoy a hearty Scottish breakfast before spending the day on the golf course. Lessons for the children, as well as the adults, can be arranged. If golf is not your game then take a visit to Scone Palace or Dundee for a tour of the Discovery Point visitor centre.
Day 6
Continue the journey north through Pitlochry then on Aveimore where you can go on the Cairngorm Chairlift. The snack bar at the top of the chairlift is Britain's highest observation building and offers an excellent view of the valley below. Overnight in Inverness at the Caledonian Hotel or similar.
Day 7
Enjoy a boat trip on the world famous Loch Ness. Start the trip at Tomnahurich Bridge, by Inverness, and cruise for about 3 hours down into the mysterious loch. The tour will end at Drummadrochit and will be followed by a visit to Urquhart Castle. In keeping with the "Nessie" theme take a tour round the Loch Ness Visitors Centre which includes a film about the monster. Return to Inverness for overnight.
Day 8
Travel south along the banks of Loch Ness then continue, via Fort William to Glencoe. Enjoy a visit to the new visitor centre, Highland Mysterworld, where the myths and legends of ancient Scotland are brought to life. Continue the journey south through Lochearnhead and Callander, back to Edinburgh. Overnight in the Carlton Highland Hotel or similar.
Day 9
Pick up from hotel and transfer to Edinburgh Airport for flight home, or other destination. |
