Island Resorts

One of Australia's greatest attractions is the unique and spectacular Great Barrier Reef, a collection of undersea shoals, reefs and coral cays stretching 1,250 miles to the south from the tip of the Cape York Peninsula. Positioned 50 - 100 miles offshore, the reef protects hundreds of islands against the oceanic waves of the Pacific and the fabulous coral Sea. Several of these islands are home to some of the famous island resorts in the Pacific, while others offer a wider range of accommodations, entertainment and facilities. Here are our favorites:

Heron Island
Heron Island Declared a National Park in 1943, Heron Island is the only resort located on a coral atoll within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. World famous for it's SCUBA diving and snorkeling, Heron caters to families with quad accommodations, a babysitting service, tennis, reef ecology walks, fishing and more. Witness great green turtles laying eggs and then the incredible race to the sea after hundreds of baby turtles hatch. Offshore, humpback whales breech and migratory birds return to Heron to mate and nest. Explore the underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef. Heron Island is a natural wonderland awaiting your family's discovery.
