Ranch resorts

Kids learn about the outdoors and the history of the West, go on a hayride, stage a talent show, and learn how to horseback ride. If you've always wanted to be a cowboy, here's your chance!  Here are our favorites:

Each summer, Rock Springs Guest Ranch offers exceptional family vacations as a traditional dude ranch. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, families again share memories at our dude ranch. Kids learn about the outdoors and the history of the West, go on a hayride, stage a talent show, and join in a progressive horseback riding program. Breakfast with parents is always first on the day's agenda; at lunch and dinner children enjoy their very own dining area. No babysitting is available here. Although they shadow the older kids when appropriate, our 3- 5 year old guests have a counselor and program all their own.

  Paradise Guest Ranch
Paradise Giving new meaning to the word FUN (Paradise Ranch's Brand), Paradise has also redefined the meaning of "log cabin". Luxuriate in your beautifully decorated 1-3 bedroom log "mansion", swim in the pool or soak in the hot tub, dine on your freshly caught trout, hike, paint, rest or ride. Ride in the uncrowded and unspoiled Big Horn Mountains (over a million acres of National Forest surround Paradise)! Ride slowly through high mountain pastures and Aspen glens (if you are a beginner); ride to a favorite fishing hole; ride up (and down again!) steep canyons to challenge the hard core "City Slickers". For the kids, Paradise offers supervision for toddlers, a full day program for 3-5 year olds, and riding based on ability and/or desire for the 6-9's, 10-13's. Our rascals loved Paradise, yours will too!

  Aspen Canyon Ranch
For everyone from rusty, old cow pokes to those who have never had the pleasure to straddle a saddle, Aspen Canyon Ranch is for you. An intimate, well-rounded resort ranch with log cabin accommodations, the emphasis is definitely on horses. On arrival you and your kids are matched with others of similar riding ability and introduced to your very own sure-footed mountain horse. Riding, hiking, fishing, rafting, gold panning, and a flexible, interesting kid's program and babysitting are available.

  Wilderness Trails Ranch

Surrounded by the San Juan National Forest and next to Colorado’s largest wilderness area, this ranch breeds and trains Morgan horses. Horseback riding is the main focus, and you can take riding lessons with one of the certified riding instructor and their wranglers. Trail rides take you to the adjacent Piedra Wilderness Area, which is part of the spectacular San Juan Mountain range. An overnight pack trip is offered each week for guests who would like to be adventuresome and experience a trip into the wilderness area on horseback, just as the cowboys did. For those who always wanted to be a cowboy or cowgirl - at least for a week - special rides are offered where you can move some cattle. You only need to be an intermediate rider for this fun experience. Once you’ve participated in one of these rides, you’ll probably want to consider joining for the Cattle Roundup in September. There is also the possibility to take Cutting Horse lessons, which is an experience you’ll want to repeat. Cutting horses are extremely athletic and move quickly, so you’ll need to be an advanced rider to take part in this event.

Families definitely love Wilderness Trails. The kids and teens have special programs to see that they have busy fun filled week. The Children's program is for ages 2 - 11. Teens program is for ages 12 - 17.
